Poo in Hobson Bay info from event of 9 June 2023

Kia ora tātou Hapua Thrivers and clean water supporters.

Well, what a session last Friday! We estimate 100 people came- thank you so much to those that were able to make it and all involved.

We have attached our slides so everyone can have a good look through them at their leisure plus the slides from Waitematā Local Board and Ōrakei Local Board. We understand that the storm recovery slides may need updating, however with this proviso please feel free to share these slides and ours. The public health notice can also be viewed here.

We are just assembling questions for both boards to get answers for, if anyone has any further questions please do get in touch.

Healthy Waters have advised

There is good news for Hobson Bay since Te Ti Nana became a Safeswim site. The Safeswim website can now be checked for up to date predictions of water quality at any given time. We therefore recommend that any events that include contact recreation in Hobson Bay, are based at Te Tinana.

While it is not possible to guarantee water quality on a given day will be suitable for contact recreation, Safeswim can help event planners make more informed decisions.

The Safeswim team is happy to help event planners by communicating directly with them prior to an event.

So, on that note please save the date of Sunday 23 July 2023 around 11 am for a fabulous community kayak & other paddle watercraft and information event. More details to come.  We are working on this with Whitebait Connections Trust and Experiencing Marine Reserves based at Te Ti Nana/Wilsons Beach and if anyone would like to help please do feel encouraged to let us know.

Stay safe and happy and let’s keep that poo in the pipes! Thank you again for your support.

Ngā mihi,
The Hapua Thrive Team
