Lastly, if you’re not aware of Auckland Council’s 10-year Budget and its impact, then this summary from Auckland Council might be helpful:

  • COVID-19 has caused a huge fiscal hole in council’s budgets. Council is working on a range of measures to address this shortfall; including making savings within the organisation, selling surplus property and temporarily increasing borrowing. A focus on recovery is vital to meet the many challenges Auckland is facing. We need to respond to the climate emergency, address our aging infrastructure issues and cope with phenomenal growth.
  • To help, Council is proposing to retain the 3.5% general rates increase over the 10-year budget, with a one-off increase of 5% in the next financial year. This will enable urgent work to begin sooner, including $900 million of capital investment over the next three years that we would not be able to afford otherwise.

Ngā mihi,
The Hapua Thrive team
